Celebrating the achievements of leading theatre practitioners
At each Tonic Celebrates event we bring together a group of remarkable women to talk about their careers, successes and inspirations. The inaugural Tonic Celebrates event took place at the Ambassadors Theatre in London’s West End. Our guests were lighting designer Paule Constable, Tricycle Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham, and West End playwright Jessica Swale. Since then we have celebrated Shakespeare’s Globe Artistic Director Emma Rice, playwright and dramaturg Tanika Gupta, and Fight Directors Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown in the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. We went to the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre to celebrate theatre, film and TV tramatist Moira Buffini, designer Vicki Mortimer and National Theatre Director of Producing and Planning Sacha Milroy. For our fourth Tonic Celebrates at the Soho Theatre Studio, we were joined by director Marianne Elliot, actress Dame Harriet Walter and Senior Dramaturg at the National Theatre Nina Steiger. The fifth Tonic Celebrates was held at the Studio at The Other Palace, where we were joined by actress Rosalie Craig, director Phyllida Lloyd and producer and casting director Danielle Tarento. For our latest Tonic Celebrates, we were joined at Hoxton Hall by Hoxton Hall Artistic Director Karena Johnson, Executive Director of Talawa Theatre Company Natasha Bucknor and casting director Sam Jones.
Delve further into #TonicCelebrates with our series of interviews, in association with WhatsOnStage – Natasha Bucknor, Phyllida Lloyd, Marianne Elliot, Emma Rice, and Moira Buffini talk with Lucy Kerbel about their careers and work.
